Axis- Mobile Alabama Real Estate

Among the many neighborhoods in South Alabama, Axis stands out as one of the most family friendly. Its small population gives the community a small-town feel, but it also has all the conveniences of a city.

Axis is in northern Mobile County, which has historically been a key port and shipbuilding center. As such, job opportunities in the maritime and shipping sectors abound. That said, there are also other manufacturing industries here, including paper, aerospace, and automotive. Steelmaker SSAB Americas will also be moving its headquarters to nearby Mobile, which will further spur the job market in the area.

Schools are administered by the Mobile County Public School System, the largest in the region. All in all, there are 53 elementary schools, 19 middle schools, and 17 high schools under the school district.

The area also has a sense of history. Given its role as a major port, you can still see traces of antebellum, Spanish, and French architecture around Mobile County. Axis is home to the Kirk House, which is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.

Living here

Located less than 20 miles north of downtown Mobile, Axis offers easy access to wonderful attractions that you and your family will love:

  • Mobile Museum of Art
Stoke the creative fire by visiting the largest art museum in the region, which houses a permanent collection of over 10,000 art pieces. The featured artworks come from all over the globe and span several periods. The Mobile Museum of Art also regularly features rotating regional and traveling exhibits.
  • Mobile Botanical Gardens
The leafy, tranquil Mobile Botanical Gardens are a sight for sore eyes, offering respite from the buzz of the city. Featuring a diversity of flora, here you’ll find 1,000 evergreen and native azaleas and 500 camellias, just to name a few flower collections. There’s also a beautifully manicured Japanese Maple Garden and a well-preserved remnant of the Southern longleaf pine ecosystem.
  • Dauphin Street
Stroll back through time by visiting this picturesque historic district. The renovated buildings here showcase diverse architectural styles that range from Greek Revival to Italianate to Queen Anne, among others. If you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll be glad to know that the streets are lined with many excellent cafés and restaurants.
  • Crescent Theater
Crescent Theater originally opened as a vaudeville theater in 1885, before becoming a movie house in 1912. Today, it continues its legacy of providing entertainment to locals by screening art house films, improvisation comedy troupes, music concerts, radio plays, and more.
  • Hank Aaron Stadium
Named after the home run king and native son of Mobile, this stadium opened in 1997 and has a seating capacity of 6,000 people. Minor league games are often played here, giving your family plenty of opportunities to enjoy the country’s national pastime.

Axis, AL real estate

Axis gives you plenty of space to build your dream home. While property sizes vary, homes usually measure upwards of 1,000 square feet. And as a family-friendly area, most of the homes here are single-family, though there are also multifamily homes available. Properties are affordable, too, with many starting at the low six figures.
